When We Are Connected Together, We Create a Spiritual Home that Sustains All of Us

2014 Stewardship Campaign Testimonial

Jay Beech

Good Morning! My name is Jay Beech and I am excited to be part of this year’s Stewardship Team.  I have been a member for 21 years and I will be honest, I have successfully avoided a lead Stewardship role during that time.  But this year is different.  I have come to realize that at UUCA we have not been living out our Seven Principles.  We have great staff and in the past several years we have not consistently met our financial commitments to them.  It is important that we break out of this cycle because it is not right, it is not consistent with our values, and does not create the environment needed to reach our vision. Also, soon our interim DRE’s time with us will be over, and so will our interim Associate Minister’s, and we will need to be in a good position to attract strong candidates who will be with us on a permanent basis and help us live out our mission.

While each of us comes to UUCA with different backgrounds, interests, and beliefs; it is when we are connected together that we create a spiritual home that sustains all of us.   And it is up to all of us to make the necessary financial commitment to sustain our spiritual home.

This year, through the Stewardship campaign we will explore how we ALL connect together to make UUCA a special place.  One way I connect is through our End Statement: Children and Youth centered in the values of our religious community and nurtured in love, who are compassionate leaders in seeking justice and peace.

I work with our middle school children on exploring our origins and values, and helping them to establish their personal beliefs.  As a parent of a high school student, it is a great feeling when our youth want to come to Wonderful Wednesdays to hang out with their friends.  It would even be better, if we had the resources to provided them with meaningful programs after the Wednesday Dinner.

We can meet the commitment to our staff and to start developing the great RE programs that I am connected to, and the elements of our spiritual home that you are connected to, IF everyone increases their pledge this year.  It doesn’t take much, but it does take everyone. Even though we are at the Fair Share level, my wife Terri and I are raising our pledge to help rise to our vision.  I encourage each one of you to do the same.
