Project Phoenix Update- Feb 8, 2019

This Sunday, February 10, our Project Phoenix partners will give a presentation at 1:30 in the Sanctuary. We will be joined by Fiona Grandowski, the Principal, from UUCA’s architect, Collins, Cooper, Carusi and by Filberto Lara, Senior Project Manager, serving as UUCA’s Construction Manager from Choate Interior Construction. These two leads along with members of their teams will help congregants understand how our new home is being designed and built. Childcare will be provided.

Our architect will tell us about her firm and describe how she has incorporated the numerous discussions and 2016 UUCA Facility Study into the design of our new space. Choate representatives will explain the different phases of construction management, including preconstruction estimating, permitting, hiring of subcontractors, and management of the building process.

A minimum of 30 minutes will set aside for a Q&A session. In the interests of efficiency and a desire to get maximum input, attendees will write their questions on index cards, and members of the Project Phoenix Steering Team will share them with the audience and the speakers.

Mark your calendars for our second open house on Feb 17th from 1:30 – 3pm at 2650 N Druid Hills Rd NE. Comparison posters of the 5 options for UUCA’s new home will be displayed. Additionally, straw poll voting for the various options begins that day to help inform our way forward. Stay tuned for more details in next week’s Project Phoenix Update.

Many of the options under consideration will require raising additional funds. The UUCA Board Finance Committee has formed a Financial Consultant Search Team made up of congregants Beth Stevenson, David Sjoquist, Charles Forrest and Finance Trustee, Bryce Thomason. The team has developed the selection criteria and the anticipated scope of work. Currently, the team is working to identify consultants they wish to interview that can help us in exploring future fundraising and financing options should they be required.

We are pleased to report that the binders containing all documents about the purchase, due diligence reports, design and development and preconstruction estimates of our new home will be available for review in the Project Phoenix office Monday through Thursday, during UUCA business hours. Sunday access will start February 17th. Details will be posted in next week’s update. Due to the highly confidential nature of the items enclosed in the binders, please see either Travis or Gary to sign in for access. Project Phoenix leaders DeAnn Peterson (dpuucaphoenix@gmail.com ) and Dave Spierman (dsphoenix@gmail.com) will be available by appointment to meet with UUCA organizations to review and answer questions about these documents.
