September 23, 2018 Meeting

Shock and Awe, Pause and Reflection

Last Sunday, September 23, the Project Phoenix team shared the surprising news that the estimated cost to renovate 2650 North Druid Hills NE as our next home is $5.5MM (click HERE for the video of that meeting). A bare bones renovation is estimated to cost $3.5MM, We now have $2.6MM available for construction. Questions and answers from the meeting, as well as additional questions shared with, can be found HERE. Please send us your questions.

The board and PP leaders met at the board’s regular monthly meeting on Tuesday September 25 to discuss the cost estimate. The board and PP leaders are considering various options for how we will move forward together as a congregation. Please join the PP leaders and board members at UUCA’s monthly Donuts & Discussion in the sanctuary this Sunday, September 30 from 10:35 to 10:55am (between services) to share your thoughts and questions. We want to hear you.

In mid-October we will meet again with our architects, construction manager and engineers to refine (value engineer) the cost estimate and discuss options. To help the board and the congregation decide how we will move forward, we will also gather information on possible funding options.

We need a small group of volunteers to join the PP team to help us with this research. If you have expertise in fundraising, finance, architecture, engineering, construction, development or project management and would like to help, please let us know at

We are planning another presentation meeting in the sanctuary on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 1:30 to 3:30pm to share more information with the congregation.

And in closing, due to planned surgery, vacation travel and work travel for Project Phoenix Steering Team members, we will take a brief break, from October 1 to 15. There will be no PP Weekly Updates and we will not be meeting during this time, but we will continue to answer your questions and can be reached at Thank you for your understanding, and thank you for continuing on this sometimes difficult, always meaningful path with us.
