Adult Religious Exploration
Adult Religious Education
Adult Religious Education (ARE) nurtures the lifelong development of the whole person—body, mind, heart, and spirit—through broad and flexible opportunities for study, exploration, reflection, and spiritual practice. ARE also nurtures the development of a whole community through courses on our relationships, our congregation, our faith movement, and our wider world.
Spiritual Principles and Practices of Leadership and Peacemaking
Facilitator: Susan M. Perz, Ph.D.
Sundays: 11/11 – 12/18
We will discuss ten leadership skills that are central to peacemaking and how they are consistent with the Seven Principles of UU and the AROMAC Commitment. We will share related stories and experiences. The course material may include poetry and video/photographs/art. A course outline and handouts will be provided on paper and/ or electronically by email to participants. The course is based on Susan’s ebook Conceiving a Peaceful World and 25 years of research. The class is 6 sessions long. Each session will focus on two different leadership skills, except for the first session which will be an overview and introduction.
Background of Facilitator: Dr. Susan Perz has a Ph.D. in Religious Education from Claremont School of Theology, CA, and is an ordained pastoral counselor. She is also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and has been a school counselor for 16 years
Other Information: This is a 6 session class, remaining classes will be 11/11, 11/18, 11/25, 12/2 and 12/18
Workshop on Life-giving Masculinity
Facilitator: Rev. Anthony Makar
11/18 & 11/25
Participants in this course will learn tools to help them deal with the emotional demands of a relationship and curb those destructive behaviors that sabotage a man’s capacity to enjoy a lasting, deep, and meaningful relationship. While the focus in this course is on men and masculinity, people who do not identify as male are welcome to participate and may in fact be surprised by how the course material might speak to them!
Other information: This is a 2 session class that will be held in the Sanctuary.

Requests for childcare during these times should be made a least a week in advance. All reservations will receive a confirmation email; if you have not received one within three days, contact Hannah Carswell, RE Administrative Assistant, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Childcare for other “all congregation” functions and special events may be available, depending on the budget. For more information about childcare availability contact email@example.com.
Adult Religious Exploration offerings are available through your financial support and pledges to the operating budget of UUCA, and therefore most of our courses are offered free of charge. Some programs have a fee for materials, or a small charge for other course-related costs. Limited scholarships are available to UUCA members and friends for whom a course fee creates a financial hardship; please contact Rev. Anthony David Makar at firstname.lastname@example.org.
