Mountain Summit Focus Group and Braving Space Program

Your board president is writing to invite up to four UUCA congregates to participate in an upcoming Mountain Summit focus group and Braving Space program, being hosted at The Mountain Retreat & Learning Center September 6-8, 2019. The request is for two representatives for the Mountain Summit and two representatives for Braving Space. There is no cost involved for Mountain Summit focus group, just the expectation of full participation in the focus group sessions. However, the cost for Braving Space program is $180.00.

The purpose for the Mountain Summit is to talk about guest services, sleeping accommodations, and meeting spaces. The Mountain is seeking ideas and opinions, so it can identify the positive aspects of The Mountain, as well as those in need of improvement. This will help The Mountain focus its money and efforts accordingly and to determine the potential for additional housing and meeting facilities as its move forward.

The ideal Mountain Summit candidates are individuals with some experience with Mountain programs, an eye for detail, solution-centered thinkers, and willing participants able to physically move around The Mountain. The Mountain will likely form an ad hoc committee as a result of this work, but no further commitment is expected of participants after the Summit ends.

In addition, The Mountain will host the Braving Space program. This program is co-sponsored by The Mountain and the Southern Region, and will be facilitated by UUA and Southern Regional Leaders, Kathy McGowan and Connie Goodbread. Braving Space is designed for teams of congregation leaders, and focuses on developing their ability to delve more deeply into challenging topics and conversations with greater confidence. Individuals who attend Braving Space will be asked to report your learning to the Board. The goal is to use your learning to design a Healthy Relationship Team at UUCA.

The cost is $180, which is a great deal for a weekend training. Unfortunately UUCA doesn’t have a budget line item for this opportunity, so I am asking for people who are interested in being the vanguard of exploring this training by supporting your own tuition. . If there’s someone who really wants to do it and cost is the only barrier, please talk to me, asap at

The schedule for both programs begins Friday night, September 6th, with social hour followed by dinner and ending after the Sunday morning service. The deadline for congregants to confirm is Friday August 16, 2019. I look forward to hearing from congregates who are willing to add value to your UU toolbox. Again, email Christian Harden at by Friday August 16, 2019.
