Tuesday, March 16th at 7:30pm: Adult RE and the Immigration Action Team are collaborating to present a 2 part series titled: “Would You Harbor Me?: US Immigration System and Values as a Crossroads” This two-part series will explore the unique challenges that our nation and the Biden administration face in restoring and reforming the US immigration system in the aftermath of the Trump era, which drastically changed both policy and public discourse. The series will explore the current efforts and initiatives in place to reset overarching immigration policy and take a hard look at the status and need for change in immigration detention policy and practice, with a deep dive into the situation here in Georgia. Our speakers from the National Immigrant Legal Centers and Project South are experts and activists. Session 1:  Immigration Policy Reset:  Challenges, Opportunities and Expectations on the Biden Administration     This session will be presented by Michelle Lapointe,  Staff Attorney,  National Immigrant Legal Center.  Michelle Lapointe has worked over 15 year to advance and defend the rights of low-income immigrants and their families, primarily in the Deep South. For over a decade with the Southern Poverty Law Center, she worked on litigation to protect and defend immigrant rights, including on behalf of the families separated by the Trump administration. Currently at the NILC she focuses on issues around immigration enforcement, workers’ rights, and education.
