Event Details

  • Beginning WEDNESDAY, February 24th, 7:30pm to 9:00pm:  Adult RE begins a 3-part series: Empathy Training for Tough Times: What to Say When You Don't Know What to Say
When: Wednesdays, 24-FEB, 03-MAR and  10-MAR - 7:30pm to 9:00pm These are some of the most difficult times we can remember.  Most of us know someone who has lost a loved one or struggled mightily in the past year.  Without gatherings, we have lost some of our most basic tools for support: our physical presence.  Join Rev. Taryn Strauss and our Lay Ministers for a crash course in empathy skills for a friend or loved one who is struggling.  It's not rocket science, but words matter.  Learn some simple steps for providing true comfort, and ways we may say the wrong thing and create distance when we wish to do the opposite.   Our source text is the enjoyably easy read, "There Is No Good Card For This:  What To Say and Do When Life is Scary, Awful, and Unfair to People You Love"  by Kelsey Crowe and Emily McDowell. Purchasing the book is helpful, but not necessary. It is available as either a Nook or Kindle eBook for $10, or you can purchase the book at a 10% discount on the website of our local Charis Bookstore (www.charisbooksandmore.com)
