Above Board: Happy New Year!
How many times have you heard a friend, relative, co-worker or even a member of our congregation say this to you?
When I was a child, I loved our many family holiday traditions. I loved staying at my grandparent’s farm on Christmas Eve. I loved having to wait upstairs with my sister and cousins on Christmas morning until Santa Claus (my grandfather) rang his bell.
I loved getting presents and I loved my grandmother’s cooking. Best of all, I loved being out of school and being able to spend more time with my friends. Then it was back to school in January and returning to homework and chores!
As an adult, we view the New Year with more maturity. We’re more accepting of going back to work or school and doing those household chores.
At UUCA, our gifts are to each other. Although many are hurting from the economy, we completed a successful stewardship campaign. We held a well-attended congregational meeting to approve our 2010 budget, and a bylaw change to define more clearly our meaning of a welcoming congregation. For those who attended our December 13th meeting, I’m sure will agree that UUCA is ready for a fantastic year.
On behalf of the Board, thank you and “Happy New Year!”
Gordon Love, UUCA Board of Trustees
