UUCA’s mission is to foster a community of faith that encourages and supports our individual quests for truth and meaning out of which we act together for social justice.  The Religious Exploration program reflects that commitment by nurturing students through learning, ritual and relationship.

2018-2019 Children’s RE Curricula

Children’s Worship (Social Hall)
Children will meet for a contemplative and meaningful UU worship experience at 9:30am each Sunday. Worship leaders Taryn Strauss, Anthony Makar, Barbara Begner and Sally Honeycutt are leading a powerful worship experience with Children’s Music director Lucas Tarrant, co-creating with the children an experience of Holy Beauty together.

K-2nd Grade (Room 3
Picture Book of World Religions
Our kindergarten through second graders will travel to far away lands to learn Foundational Stories from the world’s religions. They will learn stories from the Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Christian, traditions, and more. Our young children are blessed to have our own John Hinkle, professional storyteller, musician and puppeteer who will create a mystical experience for them each Sunday. He’ll be supported by stellar educational professionals Jane Mengel and Gordon Love. Ask them about their curriculum, and all the creativity they are lending to this exciting learning environment.

3rd-5th Grade (Room 4)
Harry Potter and UU
When life gives you Horcruxes, you must conquer them. Whether you are from house Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, or even Slytherin, you have a role to play as a young Unitarian Universalist. Our third through fifth graders will come together to take on the Horcruxes that plague our world, such as poverty, racism, war, and just like Harry and his friends, they will work to vanquish those horcruxes together, armed with their UU values and commitments to spreading love and justice. Harry Potter books are not a prerequisite to the class! Veteran RE teachers Joyce Lanterman, Vince Hill and Richard Burton are working together to create weekly adventures for our 3rd-5th graders!
