Sand Mandala Painting: Closing Ceremony
Mandala Sand Painting Closing Ceremony and UUCA Final Service
Sunday, August 5th
Sunday Service: 10:00 am
Closing Ceremony 11:30 am
Sunday, August 5th will be UUCA’s final service at this location. After over 50 years at Cliff Valley Way, we are continuing our work in a new home. Join us and faith leaders from around the country as we celebrate these 50 years at this special service.
Following UUCA Sunday service, the Monks who will have finished the week-long creation of the Sand Mandala, will begin the ceremony. The ceremonial sweeping away of the Mandala is done as a metaphor for the impermanence of life. The sands are swept up and places in an urn; to fulfill the function of healing, half is distributed to the audience, while the remainder is carried to Fern Creek (behind UUCA parking lot), where it will be deposited.
