Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and The NRA

On May 17 at 7:00 pm, 3rd Thurs Cinema will present this Robert Greenwald Brave New Films documentary that tells the stories of how guns, and the billions made from them, affect the lives of everyday Americans. It features personal stories from people across the country who have been affected by gun violence, including survivors’ and victims’ families.

The film also offers some basic facts about how profitable the gun industry is — very! — and how much money it uses to influence policy.  Overall, gun companies from Smith & Wesson to Glock have given $20 million to the National Rifle Association, essentially funding the organization, which is why the NRA, before it’s anything else, is a corporate lobbying group. According to “Making a Killing,” the NRA’s public motivation is to protect the rights of gun owners; its private agenda is to maximize gun sales.  (From Brave New Films and Variety.)

This film ends the season’s program.  We send wishes to all our participants for a great summer.
A $3.00 donation is suggested for the evening, which includes refreshments and a moderated discussion.  Sponsored by the Peace Network. For questions, please contact solovegren@msn.com.
