THE MOUNTAIN

The Mountain, an independent affiliate of the Unitarian Universalist Association, is more than a spectacular site in the Southern Appalachians. It is a program center committed to empowering individuals as compassionate, effective leaders, to exploring spirituality, to celebrating the diversity of life, to partnering with our Earth, and to growing community in a caring and intentional way.

The Mountain Retreat & Learning Centers, Inc., is a year-round center nestled in a forest of ancient dwarf white oaks, located atop 4200’ Little Scaly Mountain, four miles southwest of the resort town of Highlands, North Carolina. Surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest, with on-site hiking trails, lakes, and spectacular views of Blue Valley, The Mountain offers adventure, community, and quiet spots in which you may enjoy nature’s beauty.
