UPCOMING SERVICES

August 31, 10 am

On the Seventh Day..., Rev. Anthony David

Since the 1880s, Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday of September as a way of honoring the working class and creating a day off for workers.  On Labor Day Sunday, we consider one of the spiritual aspects of the holiday - the deep meaning of the Jewish tradition of Sabbath.  Rev. David will draw from Wayne Muller's book on this topic, Sabbath: Finding Rest, Renewal, and Delight in Our Busy Lives.

September 7, 9:30 am and 11:15 am

Declaring Interdependence, Rev. Anthony David

Come celebrate Ingathering Sunday at UUCA.  Bring water to share, from summber travels far away, or from "staycations" at home.

As we return to our regular 9:30 am and 11:15 am Sunday service schedule and begin a new program year, we rededicate ourselves to our shared mission of building a community of faith that inspires spiritual growth, out of which we act together for the common good.  Today, we take a look at one form this takes: sustainable living.

We also celebrate the coming of our new Music Director, Donald Milton III, as well as the return of UUCA's Senior Minister Emeritus to our community, the Rev. Dr. Edward Frost.

September 14, 9:30 am and 11:15 am

Turnings: The Amazing Story of John Murray, Rev. Anthony David

History knows John Murray as the Founder of American Universalism.  Full of adversity as well as hopeful persistence and even triumph, his life story is truly inspirational, and it speaks to our time today.

September 21, 9:30 am and 11:15 am

Life's Longings, Life Lists, Rev. Marti Keller

What do Roget's Thesaurus, the Audubon Society, and buckets have to do with the spiritual tasks surrounding the Jewish High Holy Days?  Come find out.

Rev. Keller, a lover of synonyms and reluctant keeper of lists, is a lifelong Jewnitarian and President of the UUs for Jewish Awareness.  Her interest in Judaism includes both its humanistic tradition and its mystic elements.

September 28, 9:30 am and 11:15 am

Befriending the Difficult Emotion of Fear, Rev. Anthony David

The recent horrific shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church is just one example of how the world can steal away our sense of safety and leave us with a sense of fear.  But is there a way of making peace with fear?  How might we deal with this difficult emotion more effectively and gracefully in our lives?

(Please note: Wednesday night Vespers is on hiatus until the fall.)
